Lib Dems call for free postage to care homes in the run up to Christmas

Horsham Lib Dems are joining Liberal Democrats across the country calling on the Royal Mail to allow people to send cards and parcels to loved ones in care homes for free for the rest of the year. Sign our Petition today!

It comes as Irish postal service An Post has announced it will carry letters, large envelopes, packets and parcels up to 2kg addressed to residents in nursing and care homes for free until January 31.

The Coronavirus outbreak has left many of the 400,000 people who live in care homes cut off from contact with their loved ones.

John Milne, candidate for Horsham Riverside WSCC said: “The Coronavirus outbreak has left many people who live in care homes cut off from contact with their loved ones. With lockdowns possible at Christmas time, it is going to be more important than ever for them to have something from their families if they can’t see them in person.”

"Introducing free postage for the many care homes in Horsham and across the country into the New Year would be a big help for many people - and help keep family and friends in contact during what could be such a lonely time for so many.”

There are over 350* residential and/or nursing care homes in West Sussex, with dozens located in Horsham District.
