I am standing for election to West Sussex County Council in Spring 2021 and am hoping that as a Liberal Democrat I may be able to, in some small way improve the situation that many of us find ourselves in at this difficult time.
As a former Army Officer and Foreign Office employee I have worked in some of the most fragile, vulnerable and dangerous areas of the world and have seen the damage that governing with self-interest and lack of compassion can do to a community first hand.
Governments which are not subject to ‘checks and balances’ are very bad for democracy and do not result in ‘Strong Government’ as some would say, but lead to lack of accountability, disdain for the opinions of others and administrative arrogance. At this current most difficult of times where we will have to deal with the ‘Double Whammy’ of Post-Covid, Post-Brexit consequences we have – A Tory Government, a huge Tory majority in Parliament, a Tory MP for Horsham (who seems to be more interested in his own political career than the issues affecting his constituents), a Tory County Council and a Tory District Council. This is not a healthy state to be in.
Therefore I am asking for your vote in May’s County Council Elections, where hopefully we can begin the fight back to improve our democracy for the benefit of all, not just the Tories.
