Sam's priorities for Roffey South:
Protect Horsham’s green spaces
There needs to be stronger protection for well-loved green spaces from developers. It’s only through the hard work of local campaigners that we have not lost Rookwood and Newhouse Farm. Horsham District Council should be protecting these well loved spaces not planning to build on them.
Value community facilities
Community halls and sports facilities connect people and enrich our lives. Sadly, the Roffey Children and Family Centre has closed due to Tory cuts and the Drill Hall was only saved through a strong community campaign.
When it comes to these community spaces Horsham District Council seems to know the cost of everything and the value of nothing.
Housing for locals and not developers
Housing should be for the needs of local people and not for the maximum profits of developers. We need more housing for young people and people on low wages who can benefit from social rent. We do not need tens of thousands of executive homes for people to move into the area and line the pockets of property developers.
A stronger voice for Horsham
Too many decisions are made by people far away.
I believe that the only way to get planning and services right is to properly involve people who use them. If local people had been properly consulted then the Council would never have proposed closing the Drill Hall or concreting over Rookwood.
A Greener Horsham
As a green Lib Dem I am convinced that we can do more, and that Horsham District Council can do more.
Local people care about the environment. Their hard work makes Horsham one of the top recycling areas. It’s time Horsham District Council matched its residents' efforts and used its power to make housing greener by insisting on higher environmental standards in all new builds.
