Horsham District Council is now working with the resident-led group Community Energy Horsham to install energy efficient photovoltaic (PV) panels on council-owned buildings.

Community Energy Horsham is a group of Horsham District Residents who believe the time has come for an increase in locally generated renewable energy.  They have linked up with Energise South to deliver such projects in the Horsham area.

The relationship between Community Energy Horsham and Horsham District Council began after Cllr Fletcher saw an advert in a Sussex Green Living newsletter. She got in touch with group and offered support, discussed possible locations and the sort of questions the council would need answered.

Cllr Fletcher then set up a meeting with Horsham District's Director of Communities in January 2022.

Horsham Lib Dems are now delighted with the decision taken by Cabinet at the end of September to partner with Community Energy Horsham.

Cllr Fletcher commented:

"This is an exciting project for Horsham and hopefully will just be the beginning. Solar panels are a win all round: they cut energy costs, keeping down the cost of leisure and fitness activities for Horsham residents, and they cut the council’s carbon emissions too.

I want to personally thank the residents who have set up Community Energy Horsham for their initiative and hard work."

Lib Dems believe that we must have greater engagement with our community and support community action such as Community Energy Horsham wherever possible in order to respond to the Climate Change Emergency.
