Thanks to our Liberal Democrat candidates in Thursday’s Southwater North and Henfield by-elections

1 Mar 2024

Voters in Southwater and Henfield braved a rainy Thursday, 29 February 2024, to support Liberal Democrat candidates at both by-elections.

In Southwater North, the turn-out was low at 28.8%, with former Conservative leader, Claire Vickers re-elected to her seat lost in May 2023, with just 618 votes.

Liberal Democrat candidate Gary Hayes received 31% share of the vote, with 388 votes of the 1260 ballots cast during Thursday’s by-election.

Cllr Martin Boffey, Leader of Horsham District Council, said:

“I want to thank our fantastic candidates Gary Hayes and Nico Kearns, and the teams for running fantastic, positive campaigns, knocking on over 1,000 doors and delivering thousands of leaflets.

“I congratulate Claire Vickers on a hard-fought campaign in Southwater, and look forward to seeing her in the Council chamber once again.

“I also congratulate Gill Perry on her win in Henfield, and to joining the Green group with whom we continue to work collaboratively.

“We will continue to work hard for residents in Southwater and across the district, delivering our ambitious plans and fresh vision for the future of Horsham.”
