What changes would you love to see in your local area? How about safer roads and less traffic? Protection for threatened green spaces? Or more services for young and old?
Become a councillor
Whatever you care about most, you can make a difference by becoming a district or county councillor. Lib Dem councillors come from all different backgrounds and everyone has their own reason for joining. Read more below and then contact us to express interest.
There are many other ways to make a difference by volunteering. The Lib Dems are a volunteer party. Could you help campaign and deliver leaflets in your neighbourhood? It’s great exercise and much cheaper than the gym! Complete our online volunteer form.
Join the Lib Dems
For as little as £1 a month you can join the Lib Dems. As a member you can attend party events, get involved in policy, and help run campaigns in your ward. Click here to join.

What does it take to become a councillor?
Is it hard work?
Being a local councillor is a part time role. Many people combine it with a job and a family. But if you have the time, it’s amazing what you can achieve.
Do I need qualifications?
Different councillors bring different skills. Some of the very best have no qualifications at all. You can be any age from any background – the only thing that matters is that you care.
What are my chances of winning?
If there was an election for Horsham District Council today, the Lib Dems would probably win it. We’ve got a great team of volunteers and we’ll back you all the way.
